Can someone help me understand the core differences between a B5 flange and a D-Flange on a motor. I am looking at a MaxxMotion motor and it calls out a D-Flange but it is an IEC motor and I know IEC calls out a B5 flange, are these the same or different?
They may look the same but they are not the same. The D-flange is measured in inches, while the B5 is measured in Metric. In many cases the measurements are close, however the motor shafts are also different. So, you have to be very careful. IEC and NEMA motors are not simple swap outs.
They are both the same but when you are looking at IEC standard (European Standard motors) then they call it a B5 Flange and when you are looking at NEMA (North American Standard Motor) it is called a D Flange. Hope this helps!
