Hello, I am wondering if someone can explain to me the difference between ODP and TEFC. I am looking to buy a motor for my gearbox and was wondering what the difference is?
The key difference between ODP and TEFC is as follows:
ODP – Open Drip Proof: Is referring to the frame of the motor is Open and can handle occasional water leaking into the motor from above. That being said they are usually more suitable for clean and relatively dry environments.
TEFC – Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled: Is, again, referring to the motor enclosure. The enclosure is totally enclosed the motor is cooled by an internal fan mounted to the shaft on the back of the motor. Typically TEFC have fins on the body to increase airflow across the motor to enhance heat dissipation.
