Do I need to use a gear box when a VFD can drive the motor to very low speeds
Low speed industrial applications require torque or twisting force at low speeds that a motor alone may not be capable of delivering unless a bigger motor is used or forced ventilation is used. This can be a tricky proposition since it involves complication.
This can also be true when retrofitting previous and older machinery specified before the common availability of VFD’s.
