I am looking at a catalog and in the Oil Well Pump section it says these motors are design C what does that mean?

The Motor design is a standard put forth by NEMA – National Electrical Manufacturers Association, it tells us the shape of the motors torque and in rush current against the speed curves. These are split up into 4 letter A, B, C & D.
A: commonly used on applications that require increased pull out torque
B: This what you will find on most motors it is standard.
C: Has very High Starting torque, usually used for hard to start load that are very heavy
D: This is commonly referred to as a high slip motor and used for applications that need high torque but low starting current.
